Intro, etc

Hey guys,

So in the excitement of spring training, I realized I was starting to take over a few other blogs that I liked and was tempted to write highly verbose replies that people only read if they're right up top. Up front I'll pay homage to the greatest blogmeister of all time, David O'Brien.

This is THE BRAVES BLOG. It is where a lot of my thinking about Braves baseball starts from. And where I pick up a lot of the new artists I find. Its a little awkward when a friend asks "where did you find out about this guy?" and I reply "uh, a braves baseball blog." But the guy has excellent taste

A very brief bio: I am a proud graduate of the University of South Carolina. I currently attend The University of Virginia School of Law. I also briefly attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, before transfering to USC. In the interim between college and law school, I held an assortment of odd-jobs, which most relevant were a tour assitant for various artists, bartender and sound engineer for various concerts/clubs. Those positions allowed me to see a lot of great music and try a lot of great beers.

I take law school much less seriously than I should (hence the blog) and the subjects of this blog much more seriously than anyone ever should. (well, except when I'm making very horrible jokes about them)

Anyway, that's enough of an intro. Hope that some people actually read this.

Oh, and Noel Gallagher is GOD.

Noel = God? My musical tastes range from rock and country to soul and r&b and jazz. Began listening to Beatles at age 3 thanks to teenage sister. Don;t understand how anyone has time to find, buy and listen to all the various bands that DOB and (apparently) you listen to...maybe its because I'm a player (guitar) too so I find myself repeatedly listening to same stuff, dissecting what each instrument is doing. I think you guys primarily into the lyrics and overall sound, whereas I may not catch all the words until long after I've memorized the riffs and solos, etc.
Nevertheless, I do like Jack White so I will check out your recommendations. And I do appreciate DOB! he is awesome. Thanks for letting me in the league, looks like its gonna be fun.

I don't listen to 1/5th of the amount of new (and old) artists as he does. There was a time when I did, but law school ended most of that.

I kind of fooled around with guitar, but quickly got frustrated and now I just kind of play folk songs from time to time. I think a lot of it came from being around ridiculously talented guitarists all the time. Three of my best friends are professional guitarists (the no other job kind), one of them played guitar for James Brown (may he rest in peace), the other's teacher was Jimmy Herring (current guitarist for Widespread Panic) and my uncle played for the Indigo Girls on a few tours and is a fantastic blues and jazz guitarist in his own right. So yeah, it was frustrating at times to struggle through some randome weezer song while they're all ripping up In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.

And yes, Oasis is one of my 5 favroite bands of all time. The others are more classic rock (Stones, Zep, Beatles and Allmans).

oh yeah, as to the "how you listen to music" question.

Generally the first thing I hear is the main riff (usually guitar), then the vocals (althoguh not really as much lyrics as the vocal line, DOB is much more into lyrics than I am), then the bass, then the drums. Then I kind of really dig how they all interplay together once I really get what's going on with each individual instrument.
